I'm working on a campaign to prevent the reauthorization of Section 215
of the PATRIOT Act. Section 215 "gives the FBI virtually unlimited
access to... bookstore and library records" and has caused tremendous
concern among booksellers and bookstore customers, librarians and
library patrons, and readers across the nation. As you may know, four
sections of the PATRIOT Act, including Section 215, are sunsetting this
year. This is a crucial opportunity not only to protect reader privacy
and halt the chilling effect Section 215 has on free speech, but also
to chip away at the PATRIOT Act, in hopes that one day it will no
longer give the government a frightening amount of power and in doing,
grossly threaten civil liberties in America.
Please go
here
and sign the Campaign for Reader Privacy petition against the
reauthorization of Section 215. Last year, we collected approximately
200,000 signatures in bookstores and are renewing and broadening our
drive in order to present the signatures to Congress prior to the
reauthorization vote.
Please support the Campaign for Reader Privacy! Signing the petition takes just a few seconds!
